The Fawn’s Fight

In the video, we see a young deer — a fawn — trapped in a small pond. A crocodile has it in its grip, holding tightly. Nearby, a buck — a fully grown male deer — stands by the edge of the pond, watching the entire scene unfold. The fawn is clearly struggling, helpless and unable to break free.

For a while, all three creatures — the crocodile, the fawn, and the buck — remain still, as though frozen in time. The fawn then makes a desperate attempt to escape, but the crocodile tightens its bite on the fawn’s shoulder. Surprisingly, the buck doesn’t react at all. He simply stands there, unmoved, just staring at the fawn’s suffering. At that point, it becomes quite clear — the buck isn’t going to help. He has no intention of saving the fawn.

A small bird can also be seen in the frame, casually searching for food in the grass, completely unfazed by what’s happening in the water. It’s a strange contrast.

The fawn stands quietly again, exhausted and defeated. It’s honestly a heartbreaking sight. Then, something unexpected happens — the buck walks towards the fawn. For a moment, there’s a flicker of hope. It looks like he might intervene, perhaps even try to rescue the little one. But no — nothing comes of it. He does absolutely nothing.

As the video goes on, we see the crocodile slowly dragging the fawn towards the middle of the pond. Two cranes stand nearby, watching silently. At one point, the fawn makes another effort to escape. There’s a moment where it seems it might just get away — but the crocodile catches up again.

And then comes the most shocking part: when the fawn does manage to pull away slightly, the buck walks up and — unbelievably — uses its antlers to push the fawn back into the water. It actually prevents the fawn from escaping. It’s a cruel and disturbing moment. The poor fawn tumbles back into the water, flailing, and again the crocodile takes hold — this time gently, almost carefully, biting the fawn’s ear. It doesn’t seem violent, which is puzzling.

At one point, it even feels as though the crocodile is chasing the buck away, almost protecting the fawn. In the final moments of the video, the fawn limps slowly to the far side of the pond, trying to get away, while the crocodile follows behind. But again, it doesn’t look aggressive — if anything, it seems as though the crocodile is giving the fawn a chance.

By the end, one can’t help but feel that the crocodile might not be the villain here. In fact, it shows more restraint — even a hint of compassion. It’s the buck, the one we’d expect to defend the fawn, that ends up being the most heartless. A truly unexpected and unsettling twist.
