🗣️ Talk Boosters – Day 34: “Should the Younger Generation Be Encouraged to Choose Farming?”
🧑🏫 Instructions for Students:
Speak for 3–5 minutes expressing your opinion.
Use helpful expressions like:
👉 I think..., In my opinion..., Some people believe..., I strongly feel..., It’s clear that...
Try to give real examples (farming in Kerala, paddy fields, young organic farmers, use of technology, etc.)
Focus on using simple present, present perfect, and future tense where needed.
🗣️ Example Starter:
"I strongly feel that the younger generation should be encouraged to choose farming. In Kerala, farming is part of our culture and history. But today, many young people are moving away from it. They think it’s not modern or profitable. However, with new technology, farming can be a smart and successful career.
For example, many youth in Kerala are now starting organic farms and even selling products online. Some are using YouTube and Instagram to teach others about farming. This is very inspiring. Farming not only gives food, but it also gives respect and self-employment.
If more young people choose farming, our villages will grow, our economy will improve, and we will not have to depend on other states for food. So yes, I believe farming is a good choice for young people—if we support and guide them properly."

Today, I want to speak about something very important and relevant to our future—“Should the Younger Generation Be Encouraged to Choose Farming?”
In my opinion, yes—young people should definitely be encouraged to take up farming. Farming is not just a job; it is a way of life. It provides us with the most basic need—food. But sadly, many young people today are turning away from it. They think farming is old-fashioned, difficult, and not profitable. But that’s not completely true.
Let’s take the example of Kerala. We have fertile land, a good climate, and a rich tradition in agriculture. But if you travel through our villages, you’ll notice something worrying—many fields are empty. Young people are leaving for cities or going abroad, and farming is often left to the elderly. If this continues, who will grow our food in the future?
The good news is that farming can become a successful career—if we support it properly. Today, with the help of modern technology, farming has become smarter. Young farmers are using machines, mobile apps, and scientific methods to grow better crops. Organic farming is growing popular. People are even selling their products online directly to customers.
There are many inspiring examples of young farmers in Kerala who left corporate jobs and returned to farming. They now earn well and live a peaceful life close to nature. Farming doesn’t have to mean hard labour under the sun. It can be a smart business, with proper planning, innovation, and support.
So, what can we do to encourage the younger generation? First, we must change our attitude. We must start respecting farmers more. Often, we treat farming as a ‘last option.’ That needs to change. Schools and colleges should teach more about agriculture, sustainable farming, and food systems.
Secondly, the government should offer better financial support, loans, training, and market access to young farmers. Farming should be made more attractive, with incentives and modern tools. Young minds can bring fresh ideas, creativity, and energy to this field.
Also, families should not force children only into engineering, medicine, or IT. If a young person has a passion for farming, we must support and guide them. After all, farmers are the backbone of our nation. Without them, everything else fails.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that more young people should choose farming—not because they have no other option, but because it is a powerful, proud, and necessary choice. Let’s bring new life into our fields and new respect to those who feed us.
Thank you. ”
