SAMPLE 1/1
Today, I’m going to speak about a value that many of us grow up hearing — “Is it every child's duty to respect their elders?”
In many cultures, especially in India, respecting elders is seen as a basic rule of good behaviour. We are taught to greet them, listen to their advice, and care for them. This is because elders have lived longer and have more experience. They have faced many challenges and learned many life lessons that we can learn from too.
But is it a child’s duty to respect them? I believe yes — but with understanding. Respect should come from the heart, not just because someone is older. It’s not about obeying everything blindly, but about being kind, polite, and willing to listen. Even when we disagree, we can do it respectfully.
At home, I respect my grandparents by helping them, talking to them patiently, and asking them how they feel. At school, I respect my teachers by listening in class and following their instructions. These small actions build good relationships and show that we care.
But I also feel that respect should go both ways. Elders must respect children too. If we feel heard and understood, we will naturally return that respect. Mutual respect brings trust and peace in every relationship.
In the end, I believe it is a child’s duty to respect elders — but it should come with love, understanding, and kindness, not fear or pressure. That’s the true meaning of respect.
Thank you. ”
SAMPLE 2/2
Today, I want to talk about a very important topic — “Is it every child’s duty to respect their elders?”
I think yes, we should respect our elders. They are older than us and know many things. My grandparents always tell me stories and teach me good habits. I listen to them and help them whenever I can.
At home, I say “Good morning” to my parents and grandparents. I never shout at them. When my teacher speaks, I stay quiet and listen. These are all ways to show respect.
But sometimes, elders also need to listen to children. We feel happy when they talk to us kindly. Respect should be for everyone – not just for older people.
So yes, I believe children must respect elders — by being kind, helping them, and listening to them. And I hope elders also respect us back.
Thank you. ”
