SAMPLE 1/1
Today, I’m going to talk about something colourful, joyful, and very close to our hearts—“Onam or Vishu – Which Do You Like More?”
Both Onam and Vishu are wonderful festivals celebrated in Kerala. They bring families together, fill our homes with happiness, and make us smile. But if you had to choose one—just one—which would you pick?
“Festivals are the heartbeats of tradition. They remind us who we are and where we belong.”
Onam is known for its beautiful Pookkalams, the delicious Sadhya, and the story of King Mahabali. It’s a time for games, dances, boat races, and joy. We wear new clothes, visit relatives, and enjoy a grand vegetarian feast on banana leaves.
Vishu comes with its own charm. We wake up to see the Vishukkani – a beautiful arrangement of fruits, vegetables, coins, and flowers. We get Vishukkaineetam – money or gifts – from elders. And don’t forget the yummy Vishu feast and the fun of bursting crackers!
So, which one do I like more?
Honestly, it’s a hard choice. But I would say I enjoy Onam more because I love decorating the Pookkalam and eating the big Sadhya with my cousins. Still, Vishu is also special – especially when I get gifts and wear new clothes.
Here’s what you can think about:
• Which festival do you enjoy the most?
• What’s your favourite food from Onam or Vishu?
• Do you like making Pookkalams or seeing the Vishukkani?
• Which festival brings more fun with family?
• What’s your best memory of either celebration?
Remember: Both festivals are part of our culture and make life beautiful in their own way. There’s no right or wrong answer—just your experience and feelings.
In conclusion, whether you love Onam or Vishu more, what matters is how you celebrate, share joy, and make memories. Festivals are not just about food or gifts—they’re about love, family, and happiness.
Thank you. ”
SAMPLE 2/2
Today, I would like to talk about a very colourful and joyful topic—“Onam or Vishu – Which Do You Like More?”
I like both festivals because they are full of fun, food, and family time. But if I had to choose one, I would say—I like Vishu more!
Why do I like Vishu? Well, first of all, I love waking up early in the morning to see the beautiful Vishukkani. My mother decorates it with fruits, vegetables, flowers, and a mirror. It looks so bright and golden!
And guess what? After that, I get Vishukkaineetam from my parents, grandparents, and uncles. I keep the money in my piggy bank. It makes me feel so happy!
I also enjoy wearing new clothes—my Vishu Kodi—and taking photos with my family. In the evening, we burst small crackers, and the whole house feels festive.
I like Onam too—especially the big Sadhya and the flower designs. But I feel Vishu is more exciting for me because of the Vishukkani and the surprise money gifts!
So, Vishu is my favourite festival.
Here’s what makes Vishu special to me:
• The early morning Vishukkani
• Getting Vishukkaineetam
• Wearing new clothes
• Spending time with my family
• Bursting crackers in the evening
In the end, I feel both Onam and Vishu are amazing, but Vishu has a little extra sparkle for me!
Thank you. ”
